Zuma calls for investment not financial aid for Africa

ZUMQA
As expected, the 2015 World Economic Forum, which is currently being held in Davos, has attracted the world’s attention.
During an open discussion in which African countries were given a platform to voice their opinions, President Jacob Zuma called for western countries or other institutions that have been generous in assisting Africa in the past decades to revise their approach. He said that aid into Africa should be channeled towards investment.
Zuma stated: “Africa has received more aid than other regions in the world. It has been used to help propel our economies so in time we can stand on our own as countries.
“Aid should shift to investment. That helps countries to stand on their own and move forward. Those who give aid should understand that.”
Zuma’s observation supports critics’ arguments that Aid for African countries is usually pocketed by corrupt politicians and their cronies, instead of being used o build basic infrastructure, health and education services.
The WEF is a platform where delegates discuss ideas that they believe, once implemented , will contribute to  world economic growth.
