The Department of Energy will be hosting the Women in Energy Business Summit in Gauteng from Tuesday 5 May 2016.
Energy Minister, Tina Joemat-Pettersson, and Deputy Minister, Ambassador Thembisile Majola, are leading the summit.
According to the department, the summit seeks to explore how women fit into the growing energy industry and also how they can better their industry reach and growth potential to take advantage of this growing sector.
“The Women in Energy Business Summit is designed to aid the increase in leadership and development of women involved in the energy space,” said the department in a statement.
The two-day summit will provide a platform to learn from sector experts, network, share their knowledge, discuss achievements and encourage the advancement of women across all sectors of the energy industry.
“Programmes that favour the energy mix including renewable energy and energy efficiency create numerous jobs and business opportunities to become available throughout the country, and women have a role to play in the development of sustainable projects that add to the economic development on the African continent.
“Women’s leadership is a global business issue and is gaining prominence in Africa. It needs to be addressed systemically across the working environment and include the involvement of both women and men at all levels of leadership,” the department said.
The Women in Energy Business Summit will also focus on how various units within companies can work together to advance their corporation’s talent agenda and competitive advantage by attracting, hiring, developing, retaining, sponsoring and promoting women in every industry sector.
The summit is a valuable source of information, insights, networking and development for leaders and managers across industries.
Participants at the summit include women and men in senior leadership positions within the energy and related industry companies.
This will also include industry professionals responsible for hiring, developing and advancing an unbiased workforce, women aiming to develop a career in the energy sector in Africa and women energy entrepreneurs.
