The Gauteng government will be installing sanitiser stations in Alexandra township to fight the spread of the Covid-19. This comes after at least nine Alexandra residents have been placed under quarantine after they came into contact with a resident who tested positive for Covid-19, EWN reports.
This adds four people to the five who had already been quarantined. They are under quarantine after coming into contact with a man who ignored an instruction to remain in isolation,
“Due to the Coronavirus outbreak and regulations adopted by government to combat the spread of the deadly pandemic, hand sanitiser stations will be launched in Alexandra,” says the statement. Using sanitisers periodically throughout the day will help to limit the risk of spreading the Coronavirus and other germs.
“MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and CoGTA Lebogang Maile and MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Agriculture Morakane Mosupyoe will officiate the launch of Sanitiser Stations in Alexandra Township.
An intergovernmental response intervention to provide the necessary tools targeting vulnerable households, especially those residing in informal settlements, Gauteng Government will be rolling-out Sanitizer Stations to benefit more than 46000 households in Alexandra.
MEC’s Maile and Mosopye will visit Helen Joseph Hostel to officially install and handover these Sanitiser Stations. Other areas include Stjwetla informal settlement and Pan African Mall,” the statement concludes.
This is how you should use your sanitiser Firstly, take off any rings or jewellery on your hands. Ideally, also rinse any visible grime or dirt left by jewellery before using the sanitiser.
- Apply the gel product to the palm of one hand (read the label to learn the correct amount).
- Rub your hands together.
- Rub the gel over all the surfaces of your hands and fingers until your hands are dry. This should take around 20 seconds.
Lastly, when you’re rubbing in the sanitiser, it’s really important to cover the complete surfaces of both of your hands, including fingers and around your fingertips and nails. Be wary of any wounds or cuts on your hands. The alcohol in sanitiser can be irritating and painful, so if you have cuts you might prefer to wash your hands with soap and water more frequently instead.
