Unless the country’s youth acquire pertinent skills, the problem of unemployment amongst them will continue escalating. And the North West Department of Local Government and Human Settlements’ initiative aimed at empowering youth with housing construction skills could not have been perfectly timed.
Speaking at the launch of Youth Build 2016 at the weekend, North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, said 40 young people of Khunwana village, in the North West, would be trained in housing construction skills that would change their lives.
The province will build 200 Breaking New Ground houses in Khunwana as part of the 1976 Youth Build Programme which has been allocated R200m.
“The 200 houses allocated to Khunwana village will be constructed by young housing developers in the province. Forty young people from this village will be trained in different fields which include brick laying, plastering and plumbing. The skills acquired should go a long way in changing their lives,” explained Premier Mahumapelo.
